Diary Archive
June

I seem to remember having lots of fires out in the back garden, lots of moments sitting reading my book out in the sunshine and, I remember one evening having six or seven girlfriends round for dinner and taking the table out in the back garden with candles and all that stuff - all night and not a breath of wind. And, as soon as the kids break up from school for their summer holidays, THE RAIN STARTS!!! It just didn't let up for two-whole months.

Still, as you can imagine, life goes on, dinners are eaten inside and, crucially, golf is played with waterproofs!

And ballet is danced with tights...!

Yes, I had the ominous pleasure of going to see The Northern Ballet perform Dangerous Liaisons. Now, I get it, I love seeing someone sweating over their art, I love the passion, I love the book Dangerous Liaisons - but seeing this period drama with a bunch of amazingly flexible and agile folk jumping about with tights on just doesn't do it for me - sacrilege I know folks, but I just don't get it...sorry!

I know it's just that type of dance though, because a wee while later, I saw 'Cruel' by a Brazilian dance troupe and it just blew me away - very contemporary, very complicated and very cool and sexy! See? I am cultured...honest, I am!!!

Well, until I admit to going to see Sex and the City and you see that I'm just an Essex gal at heart! Anyone seen it? I have to say that I loved it - pure loved it!

Anyway, this is old news...it was June mind you!

June when I discovered a wee salsa and tapas bar with real life dancing, music and lovely food - best thing yet though is that it is only a ten-minute walk from my house...how cool is that...you just walk under the bridge into the industrial area (!) and there it is La Bodega, right across from the bus station. Honestly, try it out on a dancing night, it is fantastic fun!

July

July isn't any more current either, but a couple of things happened that I will just run by you - so...WAKE UP!!!

Firstly, the rain started. I bought tickets for Shakespeare in the Park and it rained! I bought more tickets for Shakespeare in the Park and it rained again - it was July, would it ever stop raining?

Especially as I was off up to St Andrew's for the open - wow! Yes, I can hear you gasp!

There I was with my stepdad - he brought sandwiches and I brought waterproofs and boy, did we need both of those things! Thankfully from my scooter days, I had great waterproofs, but this rain was like nothing on earth. I can honestly say that hand on heart, I would NEVER EVER sit out in that kind of rain - unless, of course, you are on the old course in St Andrew's and all the stars come walking by - it was a pure thrill. Each time we got up to move, we'd look at the order of play and someone else was coming up and then someone else and the next thing you know, we'd been sitting there for SIX HOURS! No kidding, six-hours, eating, sheltering and being star-struck...Tiger was a wee bit moody cos the wind was really strong and didn't help his putting...poor wee soul, probably only made a couple of million from this tournament!

For me though, seeing this was fantastic, even Tiger in a mood - it is a great way to spend the day, if you have the proper waterproofs! I think I'd like to play in the States or in Portugal or something...I feel myself drawn to websites that flag-up the fact that there are 'golf-courses near by' - OMG H-E-E-E-E-L-PPPP!

Managed to see Sacha, my London pal and her family, during a brief sojourn down to London. Just down for a couple of nights for a party which was great fun - I met Ralph Lauren's business partners - ! Great, if you know who Ralph Lauren is, but not so great if you are me and think that it's a name of a golf brand!!!

Yes, the might Laula strikes again...

Or maybe a character in friends...

Okay, I give up!

Hey, I almost forgot! In July, Caitlin and I started doing our Sunny G radio show.

'hey, this is Sunny Govan (doodle oodle ooh dooo) hey, it's the Carol and Caitlin show (doodle oodle ooh dooo) Hey, we're on on Monday evenings (doodle oodle ooh dooo) Hey, from seven till eight oclock!'

Tune in - more self-obsessed chat with Carol Laula and her God Daughter, Caitlin - Monday evenings on 103.5fm...It's a laugh and Caitlin is great at the desk, working all the controls and stuff.

August

August had a couple of nice wee treats too...

I was up at the Belladrum festival again, which was great fun and had a great line up - I was dancing my head off to the Wailers and everyone in the audience had a smile as wide as the ocean - there was not one woman crying in the audience - great fun!

Belladrum too, the mini Glastonbury, didn't fail to impress...this is a great festival.

That was until I got to see Badly Drawn Boy - he's an icon, I've always liked him and his music and there he was, onstage, shouting at the sound guys, swearing, saying 'this is f***ing sh*te' and stuff...the fact that it was such a kid friendly festival had obviously escaped him...I was dead disappointed! It's a funny thing when you go to see a hero and he lets you down...

Still, I don't think he'll lose any sleep over it, maybe just a few fans?!!??!??!

August also saw me in the studio breaking the back of the recording of my Christmas single - Christmas is Coming Home to Glasgow. What a laugh we're having!

Not out till November and it's on Starla records - It is a great giggle and I hope to let you hear it as soon as possible - watch this space!

Then, off on holiday - off to Torrox in Spain, spending the day reading a book, lying under a brolly on the beach, eating some lovely tapas with nice wine - it's just the right thing to do isn't it? So relaxed and chilled that I came home for a day, then went down to Jersey to spend time with the Jersey princesses...lovely again, except that Jersey's entire August rainfall, fell within three hours - floods and destruction! Shops shut and all that crazy stuff - luckily for me though, I was stuck in my brothers house with three beautiful princes for company - on days like this, I LOVE THE RAIN!

But, don't worry, that wont last long...I love it even more that when I got back, the sun had started to shine and it was like summer again...those last two months hadn't happened, it was all a BAD, WET DREAM(!!),

And that's it, on into September and eventually, winter. But that's okay, this year I'm looking forward to it big time cos Christmas is Coming Home to Glasgow...

Hooray, enjoy it, I'll be going on about it till January!

Meantime, I hope you have a good time in September and on into November...god knows when I'll get writing again!

Cheers

Carol
