February 2008

I don’t understand February.

Why is it that there are only 28 days? How does that work out? I mean, it’s not even close to 30 or 31 days and then every four years there’re 29 days? Why is that? Any ideas? And if it is just to make up the time to go with the sun and stuff, then, why don’t we get say, an extra half hour every so often? Or, if we do have to do the extra day thing, then why don’t we get to choose our own extra day? No, that wouldn’t work either would it? I'd be having a Wednesdiy while someone else is having a Saturdiy.

In fact, probably someone crazy, confused and slightly dozey (like me) had all these thoughts a couple of thousand years ago and came up with the idea of having four months with 30 days, seven with 31 days and one with 28 days, except the 28 day month would have 29 days every four years!!

I'm considering therapy!

So, yes, February…a leap year…so 29 days!

We were going to have a day off, we said, let's not do anything in the house – you know, like paint, sand, move furniture – let's just go and eat lunch, read the papers, have cocktails, meet friends…you know, normal stuff.

Only problem was that when we woke up, it was a nice day…really! There was something in the sky – dunno what it was, huge, yellow, round?

Well, we hadn't seen sun in a while so we were both rather giddy! We decided to stay at the house and do stuff in the garden after all! So, rather than go for the long lunch and cocktails, I opted to stay and play with my woodpile…wey hey, we REALLY know how to live!

The sun lasted only a day though…in fact, I think it was raining that night.

And so, I got to thinking…the BBC are trying to cut costs and things and I though that they could just have recorded one weather report and run it over and over and over again!

Honestly! I know it's dull to talk about the weather, but has it not been horrible here in Scotland? Just ugly...

I hope that wherever you are reading this, you aren't thinking that your windows are going to blow in or that you chimney is going to fall down.

Speaking of which...there was an earthquake in England.

It's obviously a slow news time because the coverage of the earthquake was, quite frankly, hilarious. Now, I know someone was hurt and I am sorry to hear that. But, this was something else.

The news reported the headline about the earthquake with great gravity, the worst in years etc. And to accompany the sombre report, there was a picture of a pile of rubble – I couldn't exactly work out the scale of the devastation, then I saw it out of the corner of my eye...a brush head! This pile of rubble from this most devastating earthquake amounted to the size of a brush head!!! And, when they finally managed to get a reporter to the scene of the devastation, there he was, standing mournfully next to some fallen roof tiles! It was slightly comedic – a bit like watching a scene from Drop the Dead Donkey!

Anyway, enough about the weather...

But then, I think that's all February has to tell...weather and DIY! I HAVE NO LIFE!!!

Big news is that my loft is nearly finished and that means that my studio will be fully functional within the next couple of weeks, ready for the pre-production to begin for the next album. And really mean nearly finished...all I have to do is varnish the wood...!

Roll on SaturDIY!

Have a great time through March.

Carol

Ps – only eight-more Bush months!
