Diary Archive
September 2007

You know, I’m trying really hard to keep up about this whole DIY thing; usually I love it. But, there’s plaster everywhere, often nowhere to sit, no radiators downstairs and, as luck would have it, I painted the living room, then had to repaint it for one reason or another…All I can say is that ‘I dream of genie, I dream of genie, I dream of genie…?’

Nah, no luck. I though – like that Beatlejuice movie – if I said it three times, a genie would appear and I could ask if they’d finish the house in naught point two seconds…hmmmm…I’ll keep working on that one!

So lots of coming and goings this month, people up to see the house, new jobs starting (I’m now a Bookstart Music Champion – moy grande no?). Lots of Scottish action in Euro 2008 – Moy, moy grande – yes???? Who’dathunkit – Scotland beat France – TWICE – bloody hell!

No wonder Alex Salmond is walking about like the cat that got the cream!

Anyway, East Kilbride Arts Centre – always a great gig and the only reason it was different this time was because, during the day of the show, I got to be a plasterer!

Now, that was fun…I got to polybond the walls, then mix with the podger (pronounced – pudgu), then I got to try plastering!

Well, I think you know that I like DIY, but plastering is not one of my strengths…I stuck to the wall and couldn’t move the thing…my hands were stuck and I just made a total mess! Thank god for Brother-in-laws…Cameron came to my rescue and I decided that from then on in my saying would be ‘bond’s the name…Poly Bond!’ I missed out the part of the saying about polybonding being all I’d be good for!

Not only was I rubbish at plastering during my day shift, but my wee mum wasn’t at the show for my night shift – she ended up in hospital with a sore leg – she’s fine now, but was sorely missed! However, a few new songs and a couple of new CL fans – great night as ever in EK! Thanks for coming along…

But enough of the pleasure, the downstairs was plastered, the doors were in, and all I had to do was paint! Except, I’d arranged to go to Spain for a few days – When all I really wanted to do was stay in my lovely new house and paint. Bummer!

Still, collected at 3am (by a taxi driver who looked a wee bit like Vinnie Jones in Lock, Stock…) we were off to Spain. Cameron (whose name is the word for prawn in Spanish) joined us…and we had a blast. Especially when my lovely New York Pal, Rita, joined us.

Nothing to report here. Sunshine (which was really lovely and long overdue), great company, good food and so much laughter – just the way a holiday should be.

However, on one of the nights there was a storm, it was quite phenomenal…until we drove to Granada the next day and saw the most amazing devastation. It was like watching the news about the floods in the Midlands in the summer just then.

Except, there’s always a strange sense of being removed when you are watching it on TV…very safe. But this was absolutely awful…just cars on top of other cars, streets filled with mud – HOUSES filled with mud, restaurants with their tables and chairs having floated out into the street, people shovelling water. Just horrible…only miles from where we were staying. It really was unbelievable!

And that really was September. I realise that I’m not very witty this month – which would imply that I think I’m witty every month – oh dear, digging a hole, Laula! But I feel as thought I’m repeating myself…was it like this when I did all that wonderful DIY in the flat twelve years ago?

I don’t know, but I don’t remember me being this dull! I’m sure I used to make people laugh…I’m sure I used to have a life…I’m sure friends used to come round and sit on the sofa, not on stools covered in plaster…I’m sure I used to talk about exciting things…I’m sure I did!

I’m sure I did,
I’m sure I did,
I’m sure I did!

Nope…still no luck…!

Maybe I should concentrate more on Scotland and football and, well, no, I guess that’s dull too.

What about DIY – DULL

What about my lovely back garden – not DULL, but not very exciting to readers.

What about my shows coming up in October – hopefully not dull. In fact, I’m really looking forward to them…a trip up memory lane…hope to see you there – certainly NOT DULL!

See you at the end of October where I’m sure I will type endlessly about DIY, new houses, politics, gigs, detox – I really need to get a life.

Anyway, enough of me being dull…
Enough of me being dull…
Enough of me being dull…

Nope, STILL no luck!

I give up, see you next month…
